Tattoos from the Blogosphere: Matt's Canva Gypsy Head

We're revisiting an old friend, Mat, whose last piece posted here, will link you to two previous posts as well. Mat had dropped off my radar a while, but these photos remained in my inbox, awaiting to see the light of Tattoosday.

Here's the finished piece:

Mat explains, "I've attached a new leg piece. I got recently of a cavna gypsy head. Dustin Golden from Roanaoke, VA. was doing a guest spot [at 713 Tattoo] and had a last minute cancellation. I jumped on it."

What is a "canva gypsy head"? I'm still not sure, but Mat responded to my recent query for further clarification on the motivation behind the piece: "That Kafka mask was sort of a "gypsy" phase (which I am finding myself in now again). The real shiner of that piece was Dustin's red inks, which he mixes himself."

Indeed. The piece just jumps out at you like a bolt of light in a dark alley.

2 October - 2008 - 11 January 2009presented at the 3d International Biennial of Contemporary Art in the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) in Seville (SPAIN). The installation 'bios [bible]' consists of an industrial robot, which writes down the bible on rolls of paper. The machine draws the calligraphic lines with high precision. Like a monk in the scriptorium it creates step by step the text.Starting with the old testament and the books of Moses ‘bios [bible]’ produces within seven month continuously the whole book. All 66 books of the bible are written on rolls and then retained and presented in the library of the installation.‘bios [bible]’ is focussing on the questions of faith and technical progress. The installation correlates two cultural systems which are fundamental for societies today – religion and scientific rationalism. In this contexts scripture has all times an elementary function, as holy scripture or as formal writing of knowledge.In computer technology 'basic input output system' (bios) designates the module which basicaly coordinates the interchange between hard- and software. Therefore it contains the indispensable code, the essential program writing, on which every further program can be established. More images after the break...

Minha Tattoo 92, Daiane

Daiane pesquisou bastante, encontrou um estúdio adequado e fez sua tatuagem sem traumas e sofrimentos. Confira abaixo a tatuagem "iluminada" de Daiane.

"Olá! Meu nome é Daiane tenho 27 anos e moro em Pelotas.

Muitas vezes pesquizei para fazer uma tattoo que fosse minha cara, algo que contasse um pouco sobre minha vida, não vou por modinha por isso resolvi fazer um sol. O sol tem muito significado para mim, siginifica vida, energia, nascimento, imaginem um dia sem o sol? Que pavor!!! Então a muitos anos gostaria de fazer, mas faltava-me coragem, então eu decidi, este mês vou fazer minha tattoo, e lá eu fui! Escolhi o sol, no meio dela o siginificado é Deus e nos lados coloquei as iniciais das pessoas que mais amo: "E" do meu pai, "M" do nome da minha mãe, "I" do nome de meu marido e "D" do meu nome. Mas antes procurei um studio higiênico e confiável, daí me indicaram o studio Body Art Tattoo que fica aqui em minha cidade mesmo. Nossa!!! Muito limpo e organizado, me indicaram fazer a tattoo com o André e lá eu fui, cheguei e mostrei a foto da tatoo que eu queria, marquei e em duas semanas fui fazer.

Genteeee!!! As pessoas falam tanta besteira, que tatuagem dói e isso e aquilo!!! Eu Não senti dor alguma, a sensação que tive era como se fosse uns choquezinhos leves, somente isso!!! Mas é como o André havia me dito, cada pessoa sente de uma maneira. A minha levou 40 minutos para ficar pronta. Levei minha amiga Lizete, minha paparazzi, como eu a chamava, e ela tirou esta foto. Olhe a minha cara de felicidade e veja que estava sangrando mas não doeu NADAAAA !!!

Só aviso uma coisa, pensem bem na tattoo e no local que querem fazer, pois tatuagem é para sempre, a não ser que vocês queiram desenbolsar uma boa quantia para retirá-la. Bom esta é a minha História espero que tenham gostado! Fiquem todos com Deus."

Cookie Time!

This is one of my husband's favorites, but let's face it, who doesn't love Brittle! All kinds, Peanut, Almond, Macadamia Nut... and this recipe is so versitle that you can make any of those variations, in 10 minutes and in your Microwave!!!

Yes, in 10 minutes and in your microwave!!! No candy thermometer, and everyone loves it!!! No one believes me when I say it only takes 10 minutes!

{I make like 12 batches a year and give it all my neighbors!}

10-Minute Peanut Brittle

Ingredients:

1 cup Sugar

1/2 cup Light corn syrup

1/8 tsp Salt

1 1/2 cups Peanuts (or Almonds, or whatever nut you choose)

1 TBS Butter

1 tsp Vanilla

1 tsp Baking Soda

Directions:

Combine sugar, syrup, and salt in a 2 quart casserole dish (ceramic, like Pyrex)

Microwave on high for 5 minutes

Stir in nuts very quickly

Microwave 2 to 5 mnutes, stirring after 2 and 4 minutes until syrup and peanuts are lightly browned.

Stir in butter, vanilla, and baking soda until light and foamy.

Spread to 1/4" thickness on a well buttered or Pam'ed cookie sheet

Once cool, break into pieces and store in tin.

For a super special touch, once cool dip one end of the brittle into Chocolate and let cool again!
