Anna Friel's got a saintly new habit: Brit star dresses as a nun for Pushing Daisies

Head bowed modestly to the ground, her hands doing the sign of the cross and a white habit covering her glossy, brown hair, Anna Friel is unrecognisable in an upcoming episode of Pushing Daisies.

The English actress's undead character Charlotte 'Chuck' Charles wears a nun's costume as she goes undercover to solve the mystery behind a nun's death.

Friel's saintly appearance couldn't be more different from her Brookside character Beth Jordache, who helped her mother bury her murdered father in the back garden and enjoyed a lesbian kiss.

What a saint: Anna Friel taps into her puritanical side as she pretends to be a nun in Pushing Daisies

In the episode, from the second series of the hit U.S. comedy, Friel's character joins forces with love interest Ned (Lee Pace) to discover why a nun has died.

They visit Chuck's love rival Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth), who has quit working at the Pie Hole restaurant to live in a nunnery as she attempts to turn over a new leaf.

After one of the sisters dies in mysterious circumstances, she calls in Chuck - who ends up bringing Chuck - to help.

And what better way to sneak around a nunnery undetected than to don a habit and robe.

Discussing the episode, Pace said: 'The nuns are really funny.

'Mo Collins plays the dead nun in the nunnery episode. She plays this trash-talking nun, and she's funny, funny, funny. In that episode, we're having a good time with the gumshoe-solving-crimes.'

The episode will be screened on U.S. TV on October 15th and in the U.K. next year.
